Yankee Stadium: The Final Season
Yankee Stadium didn’t want to turn down the lights. Facing closure at season’s end, The House That Ruth Built endured a 4-hour, 50-minute affair that stands as the longest game in All-Star history. Michael Young’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 15th inning scored Justin Morneau with the winning run in the AL’s 4-3 victory at Yankee Stadium. The 15 innings tied the 1967 Midsummer Classic for the most total frames.
2008 will go down int he history books as the final year of the original Yankee Stadium, the birthplace of arguably the greatest sports franchise in the history of sports. 26 World Championships. Monument Park. The Frieze. The Big Bat. Bob Sheppard. Hammond Organ. The Owner’s Box. The Westminster chime. The theme from “New York, New York”.
Remember this baseball shrine the way it was – a beautiful baseball stadium, filled with great memories.
